I've played them all... D&D, AD&D, Cyberpunk 2020, Twighlight 2000, Traveller, Gamma World... the list goes on, and on. As time went on, i realized that i was spending more time and effort planning and writing for campaigns, than actually playing them. The "Rules" were clumsy and heavy, bogging me down (sometimes literally) to the point where Roleplaying was more of a chore than entertainment. A few games had so many books that i literally needed a suitcase to play across town. Things were getting out of hand.
20+ years ago, i met a fellow gamer who introduced me to a game that he and a few friends created. It was imaginative, and very thorough. It also needed a calculator to make characters... It was and still is a great system. As a GameMaster(GM), I felt that the mechanics of this game made it far too slow and cumbersome. Combat was rediculously slow... (IMO). And magic? Most of the rules weren't even covered in the rulebook. Things were missing, but the concept was grand.
there HAD to be an answer for this dilemma. I was looking for the Holy Grail of gaming.
Summer of 2011: i was visiting a very good friend in Seattle Washington, who game me a copy of a simple game aid that inspired "Core Rules". It came in a simple plastic folder, and contained about a dozen or so pages. What a great idea. Simple and elegant at the same time. Thank you T.
NOW. Enter Core Rules.
A simple Roleplaying System of "Core Rules", designed to simplify Roleplaying for the better.
A COMPLETE set of game mechanics using ONE ten sided Die and a mere two dozen pages of rules... maybe less. Useable for any game Genre, from Fantasy to SciFi.
This is now my ongoing project, that i hope to release to the public sometime next year.
As a gamer, what would you really like to see in a rule system?
comments welcome, and appreciated! :D
